VICELAND:
MOST EXPENSIVEST

I've been the lead animator for VICELAND's Most Expensivest, featuring 2 Chainz, for four absolutely insane seasons. The show follows 2 Chainz as he tries out the highest priced and most exclusive products and experiences on the planet, and incorporates animated segments throughout each episode.

I've been lucky to be part of the show from the start, working with the fantastic team at Mustache, where I created the look of the animation, wrote gags and storyboarded, illustrated, and led a team of talented animators.

THE INTRO:

The first piece we created was an intro for the show. I storyboarded and illustrated a day in the luxurious life of 2 Chainz, and his journey from NYC to Vegas - the two locations of the first season.

SEASON 1

In Season 1 we developed a look for the animation, and came up with animated gags that were scattered throughout each episode. I concepted, storyboarded, and illustrated the work, then led a team of animators to turn animation around quickly.

REFINING THE PROCESS:

Over the course of the show the style continued to improve, and pipeline was refined.

We took advantage of rigging when it could reduce workloads for animators, using tools like Duik and Joysticks & Sliders. This allowed for more dynamic animation to be delivered on shorter timelines.

I create storyboards for each episode’s animated segments. The rough sketches are placed into an animatic, timing them out to see how they play in the episode.

Below you’ll see a selection of illustrations I’ve produced for the show. All the illustrations are sketched out and placed in animatics for rough cuts of the episodes, then they’re refined in Illustrator and animated in After Effects.
