FREEFORM:
FAMILY GUY FRIDAYS
I was able to work with the great folks at Creative Mammals on a series of promos for Family Guy on Freeform. I illustrated, animated, and edited three spots for the series.
This project won the 2021 Motion Awards by Motionographer, in the category of TV/Streaming Show Promo. The work was featured in the Promax Virtual Experience "Hot Spots Showcase," among the best marketing and promotional work from 2020.
THE PITCH:
The team at Creative Mammals had pitched Freeform several concepts for their promos, all of which involved abstracting the shows iconic characters. Cells, the first concept, placed the characters in a sort of cell wall, where they would shift and distort. Exception would show grids of objects recognizable to fans, with one object, the exception, having mutated into a character from the show. Finally, Repetition would create abstract patterns from the shows iconic forms.

THE WORK:
My role was to create new designs based on the pitch, and refine sketches that the team had been working on. Once I completed the illustrations, I would animate them and edit together the final pieces.
I worked in illustrator to design scenes for each of the surreal directions. Then I sourced music and footage from the show, and brought all of that together in After Effects & Premiere.
When you’re on a deadline and you want the perspective to be just right, a little Cinema4D can be your friend.
As an example, in this shot of Brian as a martini glass, I rendered the glass in Cinema, then traced it as frame by frame animation in After Effects to get a more realistic sense of volume.
